It's a numerical question

100 sec from log in to ready for use
44 sec to open My Documents folder
75 sec to open Safari

Intel Centrino Duo T2400 @ 1.83GHz

504MB RAM

Can upgrading of RAM to 2GB make my lappie run faster? Or is the processor just too old for good?

RAM is where your CPU load your program into, when you run it, from harddisk. So if we occupy your lappie more than 512mb with program, the CPU will read the program from harddisk, which is way more slower than reading it from RAM.

Adding more RAM means more program are allowed to run concurrently and smoothly. But if you have 2gb ram, and you are a normal user, playing music, browsing net, not a hardcore gamer, it is more than enough. No point adding up to 3 or 4 gb ram which doesn't cause any improvement to your PC.

Your processor is the determining factor for the processing speed. Just like how long it takes for the program to load... etc etc.

Hope this helps :)
